Link3 verification: what an org badge means
· last updated
An organization badge is Link3's indication that the profile is operated by that organization's team. That identity signal alone can't establish the security of a linked smart contract, token, or embedded service.
What the organization badge covers
Link3 has separate personal and organization profiles. Organization verification concerns the team operating the organization profile, which can bring together community channels, published content, and team information.
An organization's verified profile and a separate identity check for every person listed on it are different claims. Likewise, identifying the profile operator doesn't establish what a linked contract is authorized to do with a wallet's assets.
Compare profile verification and other identity signals
| Signal | What it concerns | Relevant question | Scope or limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Organization verification badge | The team operating an organization profile. | Does this profile represent the organization's team? | Link3 describes its organization profiles as verified and operated by their teams. The badge alone doesn't establish contract security. |
| External-account verification | An external account associated with an organization account, such as Twitter or Discord. | Has that external account been verified? | CyberConnect V3 describes infrastructure for third parties to perform this verification. Displaying a social link alone doesn't demonstrate that the check occurred. |
| W3ST credential | Status or participation recognized by a community issuer. | What has this issuer recognized about the holder? | CyberConnect V3 describes a non-transferable NFT with an onchain issuer reference. This community credential is distinct from an organization profile's badge. |
Connected accounts and credentials have their own scope
The CyberConnect V3 announcement, published July 14, 2023, describes verification infrastructure through which third parties can verify external accounts associated with an organization account. This protocol capability concerns those external accounts; it doesn't make adding a Twitter or Discord link sufficient evidence that an organization profile has earned a Link3 badge.
W3ST means Web3 Status Token. Its issuer reference provides context for the community status or participation that the token recognizes. Holding a participation credential doesn't, by itself, establish that the holder operates an organization's profile.
Early profile access was a separate requirement
A community post sharing CyberLetter #13 on October 6, 2022 described Link3 Alpha 1.0 profile creation as restricted to whitelisted addresses or people with invitation codes. Those conditions governed access during that phase. They don't establish the organization-verification requirements for Link3 2.0, so an old invitation or whitelist instruction shouldn't be treated as a current badge application rule.
